Derry councillor confirms Gaza Student Scheme will continue in 2026/27
The Gaza Student Scheme, which offers university places in Northern Ireland to students from Palestine, will continue into the 2026/27 academic year, a Sinn Féin councillor in Derry has stated.
The councillor for the Ballyarnett area welcomed the extension, noting that last year’s arrivals received strong support from universities, students, and local communities.
The initiative allows young people to escape the ongoing conflict in Gaza and pursue their studies in a safe environment.
According to the councillor, the party worked with the British government, Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald, and other officials to secure safe passage for the previous cohort and maintained regular contact with them.
The councillor’s office will offer assistance to any student seeking to apply for the scheme.
