Teachers and pupils at a Derry school completed a week-long fast to support humanitarian aid in Gaza. Conlaoth Rodgers, Dermot O’Kane, and Lisa Coyle fasted for the full 96 hours. Other staff members participated with fasts of 24 to 72 hours.

Pupils joined by fasting for 24 hours or contributing through fundraising and donations. The effort raised £5,272.89 by the end of the fast. Donations will continue for three more weeks.

Conlaoth Rodgers described the fast as challenging and meaningful. He noted the initiative aimed to show solidarity and raise awareness for those in difficult circumstances. He highlighted the response from pupils, staff, and the community as inspiring.

Dermot O’Kane pointed to the support from staff and pupils as evidence of strong community spirit. He called the generosity and encouragement from the community incredible.

A local solidarity group promoted the fundraising. The funds will go to Gaza Ground Aid Ireland for essential assistance. Organisers plan to share updates on fund distribution with the school community.
