Derry school coffee morning to fund Gaza water deliveries
A Derry school will host a coffee morning on Monday to raise funds for a charity that delivers drinking water to Gaza. St Joseph's Boys' School is supporting Uisce for Gaza, an initiative that has delivered over six million litres of clean water to the territory since August 2024.
The event takes place in the school's assembly hall from 9am to 11am. All are welcome, including parents, community groups, and local politicians.
The charity was founded by Irish teacher Siobhain Grogan, who will speak at the coffee morning. Together with the Kildare branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, it arranges water truck deliveries. Each truck carries 4,500 litres and costs approximately €280.
Funds raised by the school are sent directly to the charity and distributed by Mohammed Alazzami, a teacher and community worker in Khan Younis. He coordinates deliveries to areas without regular aid access.
The school community has raised tens of thousands of pounds through various initiatives, including sponsored fasts, non-uniform days, and earlier coffee mornings. The most recent contribution, labelled Truck 1493, was delivered on 17 May 2026.
The staff, students, and wider community also offered condolences to the family of Dermot Gallagher, who died earlier this year. He is survived by his wife Carol and children Éimhear, Fionn, and Éabha.
