Derry Teachers Start 96-Hour Fast to Raise Funds for Gaza Aid
Two teachers at St Cecilia's College in Creggan, Derry, have begun a 96-hour fast to support humanitarian aid for children and families in Gaza. Conlaoth Rodgers and Dermot O'Kane started the fast at 12.30pm on Monday and plan to end it at 12.30pm on Friday, March 6.
The effort partners with Rise for Palestine Derry and Gaza Ground Aid Ireland. A fundraising page has collected more than £600, with all proceeds directed to Gaza for essentials like food, water and medical supplies.
Rodgers and O'Kane chose 96 hours to symbolise Gate 96, a crossing point into Gaza linked to access for basic needs. They describe the action as focused on children's survival, compassion and human dignity, separate from politics.
The teachers expressed thanks to early donors. St Cecilia's College serves the Creggan area of Derry, in County Londonderry.
