Care Leaver Gains Full-Time Health Care Role Through Trust Support
Katie Moore, aged 19, works full time with adults who have learning disabilities. She entered care at age nine and later moved to kinship care. The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust provided her with social worker support and assistance from the Personal Adviser 16+ Service.
Moore credits her personal adviser, Emer Supple, with offering reassurance and help confiding in problems. Supple first met Moore at age 18, shortly after she left school. They identified job and education options together.
Supple and her team assist young people in care aged 16 to 25. Moore now pursues studies and plans a career as a personal adviser in health and social care.
The two discussed the value of training for better prospects. Moore earns her own income, owns a car, and holds the job. Supple described their role as guidance while crediting Moore's achievements to her own efforts.
Moore sat in the grounds of Downe Hospital in Downpatrick while sharing her account. She advised care leavers to accept offered opportunities, noting advisers seek the best outcomes for them.
