New Bar and Restaurant Gains Approval at Craigavon Shopping Centre
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has approved plans for a bar and 82-seat restaurant at Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon. The venue will occupy Unit 36, previously used as a cafe and deli, next to the EE phone store. Developers plan to refurbish and extend the unit into an underused paved area.
The new outlet will feature varied seating inside, a bar, waiting area, unisex and accessible toilets, office space, food storage, fridge, freezer, and staff facilities. An outdoor area will add 26 seats within a decorative planting enclosure. Customers can enter via a new access to the centre's west entrance or directly from outside, allowing operation beyond standard shopping hours.
The development increases floorspace from 1,800 square feet to over 3,300 square feet, including outdoors. No changes affect the centre's 1,800 parking spaces. Department for Infrastructure raised no road safety issues, and Environmental Health lodged no objections.
Council planners noted the project redevelops a vacant unit and will create local jobs. Rushmere Shopping Centre, opened 50 years ago, has lacked an on-site licensed bar for more than 30 years. Dunnes Stores continues to trade there. The venue aims to support the centre's evening economy.
