Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon planning officers have approved a project to refurbish and extend a vacant restaurant unit at Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon.

The unit, previously occupied by Synge & Byrne cafe from February 2020 to March 2025, will become a new restaurant and bar. The application came from MBA Planning Ltd in Belfast on behalf of Killahoey Ltd in Portadown.

Work includes alterations to Unit 36, adding 84 square metres to the existing 167 square metres. An external seating area of 55 square metres will feature planters. Changes also cover a new facade and customer access at the west entrance.

Work started on May 1, 2025. The development will create jobs and support the local economy through a food and drink venue open into the evening.

Planning officers noted no objections from the Environmental Health Department. They found the modern glass and brick frontage fits the shopping centre and improves the entrance appearance.

The project will redevelop the vacant unit without harming the visual setting.
