Magheracross Mothers’ Union marks 75th anniversary with council reception
Magheracross Mothers’ Union has reached its 75th anniversary. The group was founded in 1951 and has operated continuously since then in the Magheracross area of County Fermanagh.
To mark the occasion, members were invited to Enniskillen Townhall for a reception hosted by the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle.
Councillor Coyle said the milestone represents a long record of commitment, faith and service. She noted that the group’s members have given their time over many years to support their church, their families and the wider community.
She highlighted the broader role of voluntary and community organisations in strengthening local connections, reducing isolation and fostering a sense of belonging.
Special mention was made of Mrs Noreen Elliott, who has been a member for 73 years. The current leadership team was also acknowledged: Branch Leader Vivien Clarke, Secretary Doris Byers and Treasurer Sandra Robinson.
Councillor Coyle also noted that 2026 will mark 150 years since the Mothers’ Union was founded internationally by Mary Sumner. She said the organisation has grown into a worldwide movement promoting compassion, service and friendship.
She congratulated the branch on behalf of the council and wished its members continued success.
