Volunteers in County Tyrone have reported significant fundraising results for two charities. Members of an Omagh NSPCC committee raised £5,300 at an April walk, while Newtownstewart Cancer Focus presented a cheque for £25,000 to Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

The Omagh committee's Bluebell Walk at Baronscourt Estate attracted more than 600 people this year. Since the event began in 2012, it has generated £29,000 for the NSPCC. Committee chairperson Carol Simpson, a former teacher at Omagh High School, joined the charity after retiring in 2013 and became chairperson in early 2025.

Pauline Kelly, another committee member, retired as principal of St Davog's Primary School in Scraghy and later taught at St Catherine's Primary School in Strabane. She completed training to volunteer with Childline's email service, which is run by the NSPCC. Kelly said the charity welcomes new members.

Patricia McGlinn became a committee member after helping at the April walk. She described organising fundraising events as hard work but fulfilling.

The committee's next fundraiser is a table quiz at the Village Inn in Killyclogher on November 13. The next Bluebell Walk is planned for April 2027 during bluebell season.

Meanwhile, Newtownstewart Cancer Focus raised £25,000 over the past 12 months. The group presented the cheque at a Girls' Night Out event at the Millstone Bar & Restaurant. Chairperson Sonia E Hassard thanked the local community, businesses, and organisations for their support. Fundraising activities included a coffee morning and a Bluebell Walk at Baronscourt Estate. The money will support Cancer Focus Northern Ireland's services for people affected by cancer.
