Review of Fivemiletown cattle cull due next week, MLA says
The review into the Fivemiletown cattle cull is expected to be published next week, according to DUP MLA Deborah Erskine. The Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative said she would examine the report closely, as farmers and the wider community continue to seek answers about the circumstances surrounding the cull.
Erskine said she had continued to press the Agriculture Minister and her Department for information and accountability throughout the process. She stated she would read the report intently to understand its findings and see what conclusions it reaches about the Department's handling of the deprivation order.
Erskine also thanked her colleague Gareth Wilson MLA, who has requested that Dr Martin Blake attend the AERA Committee after publication so members can question him directly about the review. She said farmers and the wider community deserve a clear account of what went wrong and what action will follow.
The review follows the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) operation in June, when 51 cattle were shot on a farm near Fivemiletown after the herd owner was disqualified from keeping animals.
