Fermanagh and Omagh Women’s Aid marked their merger with a candle-lighting ceremony at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh on Tuesday.

Cathy McCaul and Angela McKinney, co-chairs of the new organisation, lit two candles. A third candle followed to signify the combination of the two groups.

Kerrie Flood, chief executive officer of Fermanagh and Omagh Women’s Aid, attended the event. Sonya McMullan, Regional Services Manager for the Women’s Aid Federation, was present. Public prosecutor Emma Rafferty and PSNI Detective Superintendent Lindsay Fisher also joined.

Kerrie Flood said the merger enhances support for women and families affected by domestic abuse. She added that joint efforts amplify the organisation's outreach.

Flood commended the Fermanagh and Omagh staff for their daily efforts. She noted the ongoing impact of domestic violence, including women killed by men and families living in fear.

In the Omagh area, the refuge accommodated 42 women and 26 children in the year to May 2025. Community services supported 77 more women.

Flood thanked staff and volunteers who established Women’s Aid locally over 50 years.

Barry McElduff, chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, stated the council maintains a partnership with Women’s Aid. He said the council has sought extra funding for domestic abuse services and benefited from the group's advice on policy and training.
