An 11-year-old karate athlete from Derry has won three medals at the 53rd European Wado-Kai Championships in Rome, Italy.

Róise competed in three events from October 30 to November 1, placing second in the Children's Cup Kata and third in both the Under 14 Kata and Under 14 Kumite (fighting) categories.

This was her first time competing at an international level. She represents Northern Ireland.

Róise trains with the North West Karate Federation at St Paul's Primary School in Galliagh, Derry. Her coaching team said they were proud of her performance, noting her dedication and the hard work she puts into training. They expect more success from her in the future.

The club thanked sponsors and contributors who helped fund the trip, explaining that karate is self-funded and international competition costs are high.

No further details about the championships or Róise's full name were provided.
