A 35-year-old man has been remanded in custody at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on charges of harassment, abuse of the communications network, and domestic abuse.

Malekmohamadi Gholamerza, with an address at Little James Street in Derry, appeared before the court. The charges relate to dates between the end of July and August 26.

A police officer opposed bail and connected Gholamerza to the charges. The court heard that police received a report from the alleged injured party claiming that Gholamerza contacted her 144 times in one day. She said she answered some of the calls and recognised his voice.

It is also alleged that while the woman was at the North West Institute, Gholamerza tapped her on the shoulder and offered her a bottle of water.

The court was told that Gholamerza had existing bail conditions prohibiting any contact with the woman. He was remanded in custody to appear again on September 2.
