St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh is inviting young people to experience life as a chorister at a free 'Be a Chorister for the Day' event. The event will take place on a single day with two sessions: a morning session from 10am to 12pm and an afternoon session from 2pm to 4pm. No musical experience is necessary.

Dr Stephen Timpany, the Cathedral’s Organist and Master of the Choristers, described the event as similar to a school open day, where the cathedral opens its doors for families to see behind the scenes. Participants will take part in a singing workshop, sing alongside current choristers, and have the opportunity to try on choir robes.

Timpany emphasised the benefits of being a chorister, stating that it provides wonderful experiences and opens up many musical opportunities. He noted that those who sing in choirs are proven to be more academically successful. He also addressed potential concerns about family time commitments, encouraging parents to give their children a chance to experience the environment.
