A West Belfast man who founded a local football club has died, prompting tributes from community groups and politicians.

Eddie Mulligan established Glendowan Football Club in 2002 with his brother-in-law David and friend Terry. He was a window cleaner by trade and lived in Lagmore, originally from Riverdale.

Glendowan FC announced his death in a statement, saying he transformed the club and helped thousands of young aspiring footballers.

Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker described Mulligan as a giant of the community who shaped the lives of many young people, including his own.

West Wellbeing, a community organisation, said Mulligan dedicated 24 years to the club, creating opportunities for young people and helping build a stronger community through football.

Mulligan is survived by his wife Martine, children Michael, Kirstie and Lucy, and grandchildren Mark, Charley, Darragh and Robyn.

Funeral arrangements include a service at Christ the Redeemer on Thursday 17th September at 7pm, and a service at Roselawn Crematorium on Friday 18th September at 8.40am. Family flowers only; donations in lieu may be sent to Macmillan Nurses.
