A 39-year-old Limavady man has been warned by a judge after he breached his bail conditions by travelling to Derry and consuming alcohol.

Trevor Kelly, of Distillery Gardens, was originally granted bail on July 17. Police later responded to a report of a male assaulting two females and arrested Kelly. Following investigation, officers determined he was not the initial aggressor but found he had violated his bail terms.

The court heard that Kelly was on bail for six separate cases, some involving serious charges. His conditions included a ban on entering Derry and on drinking alcohol. Police objected to any new bail, citing his record of 19 previous bail breaches and 98 convictions.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman accepted the breach. He told the court that his client had tried to catch a bus to Limavady but mistakenly ended up in Derry. He added that Kelly had drunk so much alcohol he could not find his way back, and that alcohol was plainly a significant issue for him.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne remarked that the defendant caused a high level of nuisance and had clearly consumed too much alcohol. He granted bail with a clear warning about the consequences of any further breach. Kelly is due back in court on August 26.
