A Derry man appeared in court on charges relating to alleged domestic offences committed on 23 May.

Conchur Boyle, 30, of Moss Park, Derry, faces two counts of threatening criminal damage, two charges of improper use of a communications network, and one charge of harassment.

Police Service of Northern Ireland officers opposed bail at the hearing in Derry Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, citing a risk of reoffending.

The court was told that Boyle was released on police bail with conditions prohibiting contact with the alleged injured party, but allegedly made contact within one hour.

It was also stated that Boyle sent abusive messages to his sister.

The defendant has 16 previous convictions, and the proposed bail address was within a mile of the alleged victim's home.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the charges followed a 13-year relationship with no prior domestic history and asked the court to grant bail.

District Judge Suzanne Rice refused bail due to the risk of reoffending.

Boyle was remanded in custody and is due to appear again on 18 June.
