Northern Ireland is facing a significant drop in temperatures next week, with weather models predicting daytime values well below the seasonal average.

On Tuesday, maximum temperatures are forecast to reach just 12C across the region. Wednesday could see the mercury climb no higher than 9C, according to the latest data.

The cold spell is part of a wider pattern affecting many parts of the UK, but Northern Ireland is among the areas likely to experience single-digit daytime readings.

The Met Office has warned of changeable conditions in the coming days, with the potential for an area of low pressure to bring spells of heavy rain and strong winds.

Forecasters suggest the unsettled period may be short-lived, with conditions expected to become more settled towards the end of the first week of August.
