A 32-year-old man is in custody following a motorbike pursuit through Craigavon on Tuesday, 21 July. The man was arrested after officers tracked the bike using air support when it failed to stop.

Police said officers on patrol in the Moyraverty Road area spotted a motorbike with L plates being driven erratically at a roundabout around midday. The driver made off at speed when signalled to stop.

The Air Support Unit followed the Aprili bike as specially trained officers began a pursuit. During the chase, the bike reached speeds exceeding 50mph in 30mph zones, police said.

The driver was detained a short time later in the Larkfield Meadows area. He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit, and failing to stop for police. The motorbike was seized and remains in police custody.

Sergeant Patterson of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon local policing said it was fortunate traffic was light at the time, as the manner of driving could have led to much more serious consequences. He added that stopping the vehicle before any damage or injury occurred was a relief.
