A woman was arrested on Thursday evening following a police pursuit that lasted more than 15 minutes across counties Armagh and Down.

The pursuit began in Portadown and moved through Lurgan, Waringstown and Banbridge. Officers from the Road Policing Unit at Mahon Road and local district officers worked together to stop the vehicle.

The driver travelled at speeds exceeding double the legal limit and threw objects out of the car towards pursuing officers. Specially trained pursuit officers ended the incident by making tactical contact with the car on the A1 dual carriageway near Banbridge. This action prevented the driver from potentially driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of multiple driving offences, including drink-driving. Police confirmed the car had been taken from the Newry area earlier that evening without the owner's permission.

In a statement, police said they would continue to target people who endanger everyone on the roads through such behaviour.
