The Derrylin GAA club has paid tribute to former player Neil Shannon following his sudden death.

Mr Shannon, from Kilmore Road in Lisnaskea, wore the O’Connell’s jersey from underage through to senior level.

A defender, he was part of the side that won the 2014 Intermediate Championship at the age of 18, helping the team reach the Ulster semi-final. He played alongside his brother Mark in that campaign.

In a statement, the club remembered his defensive blocks and his ability to move forward confidently with the ball, delivering accurate passes or scoring with his left foot.

It noted that Mr Shannon retired from football at an early age, and that his talents and football intelligence were deeply missed by the senior team.

Fermanagh GAA has also acknowledged his passing, marking a loss for the community in south Fermanagh.
