Paddy McGleenon, a former secretary of the North Armagh GAA Board, has died peacefully at his home in Lurgan after an illness. He was originally from Tassagh.

McGleenon served as secretary of the North Armagh GAA Board for more than 30 years before the board was merged into an all-county structure. He was also involved in underage coaching.

Gerry Cunningham, chair of Clonmore Robert Emmetts GFC and a close friend, said McGleenon was reserved in manner and meticulous in his administrative work. Cunningham recalled that McGleenon persuaded him to coach a north Armagh under-14 development squad, and for 23 years the pair worked together. McGleenon handled all administrative tasks, including arranging pitches, notifying clubs, and organising matches.

Cunningham, a former coaching colleague, added that McGleenon was a former air traffic controller and was proud when the squad won the Burren tournament against Louth.

Pearse Og GFC in Armagh described McGleenon as an esteemed Gael and a man with a vision for developing Gaelic games and youth in North Armagh.

He is survived by his wife Nuala, sons Cormac and Conor, and grandchildren Nadine, Jamie, Ciara and Sé. His funeral will leave his home on Blair Drive in Lurgan on Friday at 1.15pm for Requiem Mass in St Peter's Church at 2pm, followed by burial in St Colman's Cemetery.
