A volunteer search and rescue organisation based in Bangor has secured funding to replace the engine of its operational boat.

K9 Search and Rescue NI received £1,000 from the Spar Community Cashback Grant scheme. The money will be used to purchase a new engine for the vessel, which is used during water-based searches for missing people.

The group’s volunteers support emergency services across Northern Ireland, giving their time to training, callouts, and community engagement.

A team from the charity recently travelled to Venezuela to assist with earthquake relief efforts.

Bethany Priestly of Spar NI described the company’s stores as community hubs. She said the grant programme provided vital income for organisations that shoppers care about.

Priestly said K9 Search and Rescue offered expertise during families’ worst moments, and the retailer was pleased the funding would help sustain and grow the group’s services.
