A 15-year-old boxer from Newtownards has won the Manchester Box Cup for the second time in his career.

Zac Foster, competing in the 42kg category for Enler ABC, defeated Adam Quinn from Camlough by unanimous decision on Saturday. He forced a standing count in the third round with a body shot, a rare achievement at this level of competition.

The victory marks Foster’s first Box Cup win for Enler ABC since joining the club ten months ago. It is also the club’s first Box Cup trophy since it opened less than two years ago.

Head coach Jonny Hunter said Foster fought through hayfever symptoms but remained too intense for his opponent. He expressed pride in both the boxer and the milestone for the club.

Foster already holds multiple county and provincial titles, including Armagh/Down, Mid Ulster, and Ulster 9 Counties championships.

Clubmate Bobby Boardman, a 14-year-old from Comber, lost his final in the 2012 42kg division to Ameen El Azeem. Despite the result, coaches reviewed footage and believed Boardman deserved the decision. Hunter described his debut performance as a valuable experience that will benefit him in future competitions.

Both boxers will compete at the Monkstown Box Cup in Dublin next Thursday. Foster then aims to secure a place on the Irish European team at the Irish Cadets Qualifier in late July.
