Enler Boxing Club Hosts Inaugural Fight Night at Scrabo Golf Club
Comber's Enler Boxing Club organised its first fight night at Scrabo Golf Club on Saturday. The event included fighters from Northern Ireland and the UK. The club formed in 2024 and produced 22 champions across counties.
The night served as a charity event for Mitchell House special education school. Newtownards resident Allan Foster, 46, fought club coach Aaron Hunter in a bout to raise funds for the school. Allan Foster's close friend Brian Mayne has a son Matthew who attends Mitchell House. The fight supported specialist equipment and days out for pupils.
Young fighters opened the card. Seven-year-old Charlie Boardman from Enler faced Cullea McCrea from St John Bosco. Charlie's sister Molly, Tommy Doran and Theo Lecky also competed for the club. All were under age 10.
Zac Foster, son of Allan Foster, won by unanimous decision against Issac Ireland from Banbridge. Bobby Boardman defeated Kodi Watson from Rathcoole. Samuel Hudeson beat Aidan Green from St John Bosco with two knockdowns.
Competitive bouts after the interval saw wins for Harley McNeil and Danny Salisbury from Carlisle Villa over Jimmy Hassan from Corpus Christi and Josh Kilpatrick from Banbridge. Michael Ward from Carlisle Villa took a split decision over Luis Holmes from Corpus Christi.
Padraig Downey from St John Bosco won a split decision against Chara Ruaengprat from Carlisle in a no-headguards fight. Phil Alexander from Enler defeated Ben Reed from Carlisle by split decision.
Former professional boxers Tyrone McKenna and Tommy McCarthy presented prizes and judged fights. Head coach Jonny Hunter stated the event provided crowd experience for young boxers. He noted no competitive boxing club existed in Comber previously. He added many children had engaged in anti-social behaviour before joining.
