Loughmacrory St Teresa’s GAA club in mid-Tyrone has officially opened Fr Mallon Park, a redevelopment of its former pitch into a modern sports and community facility.

The new venue includes a full-size sand carpet pitch measuring 144 metres by 88 metres, a 500-metre walking track, and a community building with changing rooms, public toilets, and a meeting space for more than 75 people. Additional features include championship-standard floodlighting, a spectator stand, equipment storage, 45 extra parking spaces, lift access, and solar panels with battery storage.

The project cost almost £1.1 million, with the vast majority of funding coming directly from the local community, according to club chairperson Shane McCullagh.

He said the facility represents a lasting legacy for future generations and reflects the ambition and generosity of the people of Loughmacrory.

The opening ceremony took place 71 years to the day after the ordination of Father Thomas Mallon, for whom the park is named. Fr Mallon Park complements the club’s other ground, Páirc an Locha, which remains in use.

The redevelopment was overseen by a capital development sub-committee comprising Shane McCullagh, Barry Cullen, Paddy McDonald, Mickey Kelly, Stevie Conway, John Kelly, Rory O'Brien, Seamus Kelly, Benny Ward, Aidan Gordon, and Barry McElduff.
