Planning Approval Granted for New Handball Centre in Loughmacrory
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has granted planning permission for a new handball centre in Loughmacrory, Tyrone. The facility will serve Loughmacrory St Teresa’s GAA club and sit opposite the current youth club and handball complex on Ballybrack Road.
The new centre will contain two handball courts, tiered seating for spectators, accessible facilities, a reception area, male and female changing rooms and storage space. Its design will match existing sports facilities in the area, including Fr Mallon Park and pitches near the Lough walkway.
Loughmacrory St Teresa’s GAA club maintains a long history of handball participation and has secured Tyrone, Ulster and All-Ireland titles. In the late 1990s, Ciaran Curran reached the All-Ireland Senior singles 40x20 final as the first player from Tyrone to do so.
The club operates several one-wall courts near the Lough that see regular use. The planning statement indicates the handball facility will offer accessible indoor sports infrastructure to promote physical activity, wellbeing and community engagement.
