Derry City and Strabane District Council endorsed a £100 million redevelopment of the Templemore Sports Complex in Derry in a special January meeting. The project, set to open in 2030/31, includes an Olympic-sized eight-lane main pool with poolside sauna, a leisure pool, toddler pool, water recreation features such as family flumes, village-style wet changing areas, a café, and spectator seating.

At February's council meeting, SDLP Councillor Rory Farrell welcomed the main pool plans but sought clarification on the leisure and water play provisions. He noted the vague language around the family recreation pool, citing terms like 'family flumes' and 'junior splash' as unclear to the public.

Council officer Mr Kelpie responded that the design team has been appointed and is developing designs, with an update planned for April's Health and Communities Committee meeting. Further consultation with stakeholders, user groups, and the public is scheduled from May to July.

The Templemore plans were detailed alongside proposals for a new sports complex in Strabane, presented in reports at the recent special council meeting on City Deal, capital, and corporate projects.
