Police to Step Up Patrols Following Anti-Social Behaviour in Newry
Police in Newry have confirmed they are aware of an ongoing spate of anti-social behaviour in the Armagh Road area and will maintain a patrol presence in the coming days.
The Meadow and Armagh Road community association has publicly highlighted the problems through its social media channels, pointing to incidents that include items being set alight on roads, fireworks discharged near the community centre, and large groups on e-scooters shouting verbal abuse at people who challenge them. Stones have also been thrown at pedestrians and passing vehicles.
Inspector MacDonald of the PSNI said local officers understand the impact such behaviour has on residents' quality of life and are liaising with community representatives. He stated that patrols will be increased to maintain a visible presence.
The inspector urged anyone affected by anti-social behaviour or with information about recent incidents to contact officers at Newry on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Reports can also be submitted online.
