Greenway Funding Announced for Border Region Including Warrenpoint to Newcastle Route
Funding has been announced for four greenway projects in the border region under the Shared Island Greenways Development Fund.
The Warrenpoint to Newcastle greenway will receive €25,000, according to the announcement welcomed by Sinn Féin MLA Sinéad Ennis.
Ennis commended Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins for her collaborative work with the Irish government in securing the funding.
She said the greenways would deliver positive benefits for local communities by expanding active transport options and strengthening all-island connectivity.
The projects are expected to provide safe spaces for walking and cycling, linking cities, towns and villages, and unlocking economic and tourism potential.
Ennis added that she looked forward to seeing work progress on the Warrenpoint to Newcastle scheme, which she said would enhance the lives of those who live, work or visit the area.
