Lurgan schoolboy selected for Junior Motocross World Championship
An 11-year-old motocross rider from Lurgan has been called up to represent Ireland at the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in the Czech Republic this summer.
He will compete in the Junior 65cc class on 5 and 6 July in Jinin, alongside Banbridge’s Brendan McAreavey and Jake Sayers of Derry/Londonderry. Team manager Richard McKeown will oversee the squad.
The rider, a pupil at King’s Park Primary School in Lurgan, began riding at the age of four and entered his first competitions at six.
His rise through the sport has been rapid. In 2023, at eight years old, he won his first championship on a KTM 50cc automatic machine. The following year he moved to geared 65cc bikes and claimed the Ulster 65cc Cadet Championship as a nine-year-old. At ten he stepped up again and secured the Junior 65cc championship title.
He first donned Ireland colours in 2025, competing in France before being selected for the prestigious Coupe de l’Avenir in Belgium later that year.
This season he is leading the Ulster Championship with two rounds still to run. He has also gained experience across the UK, taking part in the Plews British Masters and MXGB Youth Championships.
A fundraising page has been launched on iDonate to help cover travel and competition costs for the team’s journey to the Czech Republic.
