Omagh-shot film ‘The Spin’ lands on Amazon Prime after cinema success
A feature film shot entirely in Omagh and featuring local talent will become available on Amazon Prime from 26 June, following a cinema release earlier this year that reached number 26 in the UK Box Office.
‘The Spin’, which won multiple awards, drew its story from a column originally published in the Ulster Herald. It received favourable reviews from outlets including The Guardian and The Independent.
The production employed a cast of Irish actors including Owen Colgan, Brenneck Connor, Kimberley Wyatt, and Love Island contestant Maura Higgins in her acting debut. Supporting roles and crew were largely sourced from the Omagh area, with members of the Omagh Players drama group contributing to the project.
Filming took place across Omagh town centre, Main Street, and surrounding areas such as Gortin, Ballygawley, and the Sperrin Mountains. A central location was Boneyard Records, a working record shop whose owner, Johnnie Lomax, appears in a cameo role.
Local businessman Mickey McElroy provided multiple shooting locations and accommodated the film crew at his Rue Hotel. Publican Colm Broderick, who played a bailiff in the film, said the production showcased the area and could encourage visitors.
Residents and participants expressed pride in seeing their town on screen. Jackie McCaffrey, who helped cast local talent, described the experience as enjoyable and a way to promote Omagh. Others noted that the film captured the humour and character of Tyrone, leaving viewers with a lasting impression of the countryside.
‘The Spin’ is currently available on BBC iPlayer and will stream on Amazon Prime in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and the UK from 26 June.
