Chris O'Dowd to star in thriller about Northern Ireland peace process
Chris O'Dowd is set to star in a new thriller chronicling the Northern Ireland peace process, with filming scheduled to begin later this year.
The actor was recently seen at the Angler's Rest in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, while watching an All-Ireland senior football championship match between his native Roscommon and Monaghan.
The film, titled Ceasefire, is written and directed by Belfast filmmaker Terry George. O'Dowd will portray Niall O'Dowd, founder of the Irish Voice newspaper.
Production is led by Fermanagh native Trevor Birney through his company Fine Point Films, in collaboration with Patrick O'Neill of Wildcard.
Producers described the story as a reminder that individuals, rather than governments, can bring about peace. They noted that after 25 years of conflict, hope for an end to violence had faded, and the process behind the peace deal was both thrilling and emotional.
The project aims to highlight the role of private citizens in resolving the decades-long conflict.
