Fintona man gets conditional discharge for damaging neighbour's CCTV cameras
A Fintona man has been handed an 18-month conditional discharge after he was caught on camera causing criminal damage to a neighbour's CCTV equipment.
Dean Wilson, 38, of Duncan Park, pleaded guilty to the offence at Omagh Magistrates Court. The court heard that on 7 April 2025, the occupant of a nearby property found several cameras had been damaged overnight.
Police reviewed stored footage which showed a man entering a garden at around 2am and damaging four cameras, leaving three inoperable. The man was later identified as Wilson.
During a voluntary police interview, Wilson denied responsibility despite being shown the footage. He later changed his plea to guilty.
Defence solicitor Joe McCann told the court that Wilson held no ill will toward the victim but had objected to the positioning of the cameras, which he believed were directed at his home.
The court heard that Wilson had gathered £249.94 in compensation for the injured party. District Judge Conor Heaney described the actions as "fairly idiotic behaviour", noting Wilson had been recorded carrying out the damage.
Judge Heaney imposed the conditional discharge, taking into account the guilty plea and the compensation offered. Wilson was also ordered to pay the £249.94 compensation to the victim.
