A cameraman for an Israeli television channel was injured after a pint glass was thrown at him in Belfast city centre at the weekend, the crew has said. The incident occurred in the Cathedral Quarter while an i24News crew was filming a documentary about antisemitism in Europe.

Reporters Yonatan Raveh and Nadav Abas were conducting interviews when a man approached them. The man shouted at the crew and attempted to take their camera equipment, according to the station.

Security staff from nearby bars intervened and tried to separate the man from the crew. The man then threw a pint glass at Mr Abas, causing a cut to his head.

Mr Raveh said he believed the man had overheard the crew telling interviewees they were from Israel. He said the man made hand gestures and shouted anti-Israel remarks before following the crew.

The crew was brought inside a bar after security staff stepped in. Mr Raveh said staff reported calling the police, but the crew did not wait to speak with officers because the man did not return.

Neither reporter required further medical treatment. Both returned to Israel after the incident.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland was contacted for comment.
