The Donaghadee lighthouse will be open to the public this Saturday for the first time in several years. The opening is part of the Donaghadee RNLI Open Day and is organised by the Donaghadee Heritage Preservation Company in partnership with the Sir Samuel Kelly project.

Visitors can climb the lighthouse between 12 noon and 4pm and see views from the top. Children who complete the climb will receive a certificate of achievement.

From 11am to 5pm, the harbour area will host stalls, live music and water safety demonstrations. The Ards Peninsula u3a ukulele group will perform during the event.

The Donaghadee Lifeboat Station will open to visitors from 1pm to 4pm. The volunteer crew will talk about their work and visitors can board the lifeboat.

There will be a lifeboat display in the harbour. All donations raised will go to the RNLI's lifesaving operations.

A harbour market will sell local crafts, artisan products, gifts and food. The Donaghadee Summer Festival will be officially launched during the open day.
