Annual Sea Swim Fundraiser Returns to Support RNLI at Strangford Lough
A sea swim fundraiser takes place at Strangford Lough Yacht Club on June 21 at 4pm. The fourth annual Dash for Dougie event supports the RNLI. Swimmers of all abilities can join.
Kim Armstrong from Comber started the event in memory of her son Steven Dugan. He passed away in December 2022 after a sudden illness. The date falls one day before his 37th birthday. His 11-year-old son Xander plans to attend.
This year the event moves to the yacht club from Millisle beach due to the RNLI focus. Participants can wear fancy dress. Tea, coffee and buns follow at the club.
Armstrong took up cold water swimming during Covid lockdown after years of pool swimming. She organizes fundraisers for various charities. The RNLI provides 24-hour search and rescue along Northern Ireland coasts and inland waters.
