Lidl to replace Bangor hoarding with see-through mesh after safety concerns
Lidl is to replace part of the solid wooden hoarding at its new store construction site in Bangor with mesh fencing after residents raised concerns about poor visibility for motorists and pedestrians.
The tall hoarding at the corner of Skipperstone Park and Skipperstone Avenue, near the South Circular Road roundabout, created a blind bend. Residents reported near misses and said the footpath had been removed, leaving only a narrow walkway alongside the fence.
North Down MLA Stephen Dunne had urged that road user and pedestrian safety be the top priority during the construction project. The Department for Infrastructure confirmed it had engaged with the contractor over the hoarding.
A Lidl Northern Ireland spokesman said this week the company takes community feedback seriously and had conducted a site review with stakeholders. It will replace the solid closed-board fencing with mesh Heras panels at the junction to immediately improve sightlines, while keeping the main site hoarding in place for security and public safety. The work is being carried out as a priority.
