Shipping Containers to Stay at Enniskillen Hotel Site Until Demolition Approved
Shipping containers placed in front of the derelict Railway Hotel in Enniskillen will stay until planning permission grants demolition of the site. The containers stand on Forthill Street and block the footpath.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council stated that the owner, David Mahon of David Mahon Properties Ltd., seeks approval for the demolition. The owner plans to remove the containers and reopen the footpath once work starts.
A major fire destroyed the hotel in September 2024. The Department for Infrastructure issued a permit and received a bond for the containers as a safety measure.
Councillors requested removal of the containers due to effects on pedestrians and mobility scooter users, plus changes to the street appearance.
The council contacted David Mahon and the Department for Infrastructure multiple times. Correspondence raised issues with footpath access, its condition, and timelines for container removal.
The hotel closed permanently in 2015 after serving as a venue for functions and accommodation. It went on sale in 2023 for £750,000.
