The Millennium Forum in Derry is holding auditions for a new play, The Body of Bobby, which will have its world premiere in October.

The play, written by Derry playwright Gary Breslin, follows four teenagers from the Creggan area in the week after Bobby Sands's death in 1981. They attempt a hunger strike of their own, armed with a radio, soup, and the guidance of a Derry mother. The theatre describes it as a dark comedy that examines how the Troubles shaped youth and adulthood through friendship, grief, and community.

Auditions are open for several lead roles, including a mother in her late 30s or 40s, a deceased father, and a number of teenage characters with playing ages between 14 and 17. Actors of any gender are encouraged to apply for roles they feel suit them. The submission deadline is Saturday 20 June 2026, with auditions taking place at the Millennium Forum on Saturday 27 June from 10am.

Rehearsals will run on weekends from late August through September, with the production staged from Thursday 8 October to Saturday 10 October. Director Kieran Griffiths will lead the project, and producer David McLaughlin said the play is an exciting opportunity for local talent and part of the venue's 25th anniversary celebrations.

Tickets are now available from the box office by calling 71 264455 (option 1) or visiting millenniumforum.co.uk. For audition details or to book a slot, contact Mags Anderson at the Millennium Forum on 71 272776 or via email.
