A community garden project in Tempo has received a £1,000 grant from Power NI’s Brighter Communities programme.

Tempo Men’s Shed will use the money to develop its garden and outdoor learning area, where older people, young people and community groups learn about composting, planting, soil health and sustainable horticulture.

Members of the group construct planters, flower displays and vegetable beds from recycled materials. Many of these line a walking track that runs through the town.

The project is designed to reduce social isolation and support mental health through hands-on activities. A spokesperson for Tempo Men’s Shed said the funding would create more opportunities for people to come together, learn new skills and benefit from gardening, while also improving the environment and supporting wellbeing and social connection.

Ashleigh O’Neill, senior marketing and communications executive at Power NI, said the group was creating greener spaces, reducing isolation and giving people of all ages the chance to learn from one another.
