Members of First Newcastle Cub Scouts have built and distributed window boxes filled with seasonal flowers to people receiving care across the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. The young scouts joined forces with The Conservation Volunteers NI to construct, design and plant the boxes as part of a community impact project.

The initiative was developed in late spring with backing from the Public Health Agency. It was carried out in partnership with GP surgeries in Donard, Causeway, Clough and Dundrum.

Senior social work practitioner Pauline Kelly said the cubs had identified a wish to support local people who could gain from a brightness-raising gift. Dianne Keys of The Conservation Volunteers NI described the cubs' contribution as remarkable and beneficial for the community.

Trust staff said the boxes were warmly received. Claire Brockbank, a social worker, reported that one recipient was moved to tears, explaining that the gesture arrived during a challenging period and served as a reminder that others care.
