Ambulance Service Recognises Over 450 Community Volunteers During National Week
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has publicly thanked its volunteers during National Volunteers’ Week, which took place in early June 2026. The recognition covers both Community First Responders and Volunteer Car Drivers who operate across the region.
There are 458 Community First Responders working within 25 local schemes. These volunteers are trained to attend medical emergencies and often arrive before ambulance crews. Their work includes responding to cardiac arrests and other time-critical incidents, where early intervention can affect outcomes.
Volunteer Car Drivers were also highlighted for their role in transporting patients, helping people to access essential healthcare appointments safely and comfortably.
The service stated that the volunteers together contribute thousands of hours each year to supporting emergency response and patient care across Northern Ireland.
