Police in Armagh hosted a large-scale training exercise at Gough Police Station to test emergency services' response to a major road traffic collision involving police armoured vehicles.

The drill simulated a serious incident with multiple vehicles, including civilian cars and armoured police vehicles carrying detained persons. Officers from the South Area Probationer Training Unit acted as first responders and incident coordinators.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance took part. Each agency operated according to its normal procedures, including scene command, vehicle cutting and casualty treatment.

Sergeant Bigger, who organised the exercise, said the aim was to test operational policies, assess how agencies work together, and improve understanding of armoured vehicles in emergency situations.

NIFRS Station Commander Conor Weir said the exercise strengthened coordination and communication between services. NIAS Assistant Director of Operations Heather Sharpe said the training gave the Hazardous Area Response Team experience in treating casualties in complex scenarios.

Sergeant Bigger said the exercise produced learning points for all agencies and reinforced the value of joint training for future incidents.
