Dundrum Castle featured on new UK stamp set
Dundrum Castle has been selected for a new set of Royal Mail stamps featuring historic fortifications from across the UK.
The stamps go on general sale on 21 May and include eight castles dating from the Norman period onwards.
Dundrum Castle was one of the first castles built by Anglo-Norman settlers in Ireland from the 1170s.
The site overlooks Dundrum Bay and was positioned to control access to the harbour.
The circular keep still standing at the site is believed to have been built around 1211 by Hugh de Lacy.
Dunluce Castle is also included in the same collection.
Gordon Lyons of the Department for Communities said the selection of both sites gives an opportunity to promote the monuments to a wider audience.
The stamps are available to preorder now from Royal Mail, with other collectable items also released alongside the issue.
