Armagh Woman Given Suspended Sentence for £35,700 Benefits Fraud
A 56-year-old woman from south Armagh received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, at Newry Crown Court for benefits fraud.
Yvonne Hoey of Molly Road in Jonesborough claimed Employment Support Allowance and rate relief totaling £35,724 without declaring capital received while claiming the benefits.
The Department for Communities investigated and uncovered the fraud. Hoey has repaid all the money obtained to the department.
Separate court proceedings involved a 26-year-old woman from Armagh banned from driving for 18 months after crashing her car into a ditch on the city's outskirts and initially denying she drove.
Airbag forensics linked her to the crash. She received the ban following the incident.
In another case, an Armagh woman admitted disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest, and assault on police after shoving an officer during her partner's arrest for assaulting police. She was fined.
