Newry Youth Performing Arts will stage School of Rock the Musical at Newry Town Hall from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16. The production includes a matinee on the final day.

The show features a cast of young performers from the region. It presents a two-act musical with live music. The story centres on a rock enthusiast who becomes a substitute teacher and forms a band with students.

This production counts as one of the final shows at the venue before its temporary closure for redevelopment. The project costs £21 million. Plans include a new multi-functional venue on the site of the adjacent Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, linked by a glazed atrium.

The upgraded facilities will form a single theatre and conference centre.

Roisin Fearon of Newry Youth Performing Arts stated that the show highlights the talent of young performers and marks the end of the current Town Hall era. She noted pride in the production and plans to stage future shows in Armagh and Warrenpoint during the closure.
