Youth Brawl in Bangor Hospitalises Four Amid Calls for Police Station Reopening
Gangs of youths fought in Bangor town centre on Saturday evening, resulting in four young people receiving hospital treatment for minor injuries. The disturbance began at Quay Street just after 7pm and moved to High Street, with additional groups gathering at the Abbey Street train station.
North Down MP Alex Easton called for the reopening of Bangor PSNI station to the public. The station overlooks the Translink hub where some youths congregated.
Chief Inspector Hutchinson of PSNI stated that officers received a report at 7.05pm of youths fighting in the Quay Street area before they ran toward High Street. He noted dedicated resources were in place throughout Saturday to handle antisocial behaviour.
Police maintained a high presence in Bangor on Sunday and plan to continue patrols alongside partner agencies and local representatives. Hutchinson emphasised that PSNI takes all reports of such behaviour seriously and recognises its wider impact.
The incident follows an attack on K9 rescue volunteer Ryan Gray and his dog Max on March 27, as well as vandalism of local businesses by young people.
Bangor Chamber of Commerce scheduled a meeting for May 7 at The Old Market House to hear from police chiefs on measures against unrest.
Enquiries continue. Police request information via 101 quoting reference 1237 of 25/04/26, the PSNI online form, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
