Strabane War Memorial Hit by Sectarian Graffiti in Hate Crime
Police in Strabane received a report on Monday of criminal damage to the war memorial on Derry Road. Graffiti reading 'KAH', meaning 'Kill All Huns', appeared on the monument overnight. Officers are treating the incident as a sectarian-motivated hate crime.
Ulster Unionist councillor Derek Hussey condemned the vandalism. He noted this is not the first attack on the site, as wreaths have been removed previously. Hussey stated the memorial honours people from all community backgrounds who died in conflicts including the world wars.
Mark Brown from the Royal British Legion in Strabane expressed shock at the incident. He pointed out that memorials remember the fallen regardless of religion or politics.
The North West Cultural Partnership issued a statement calling the act disappointing. The group said memorials represent shared history and respect for those affected by conflict.
Police appealed for information, asking callers to quote reference number 503 of 27/04/26 when contacting 101 or reporting online. Crimestoppers can be reached anonymously on 0800 555 111.
