Health Minister Visits Lurgan Charity on 10th Anniversary
Northern Ireland's Health Minister Mike Nesbitt visited the Lurgan-based charity Knitted Knockers NI to mark its 10th anniversary. The group provides handmade lightweight breast prostheses to women after mastectomy or breast surgery.
Nesbitt met Joanne Harris and volunteers during the visit. The charity produces over 5,000 free prostheses each year. A spokesperson for Knitted Knockers NI thanked Nesbitt, Doug Beattie, Kyle Savage, Hope Graham, Ali Campbell, Helen Smyth and Joanne Harris for attending.
Nesbitt highlighted the volunteers' support for breast cancer patients. He noted breast assessment waiting times across Northern Ireland have halved to five weeks and two days from 12 weeks in September 2025.
The minister stated that charities like Knitted Knockers offer vital support beyond medical care. This includes a social environment at the Breast Friends Clubhouse and mental health assistance.
